8% Cobalt High Speed Steel M42 HSS Rod

M42 steel (W2Mo9Cr4VCo8) is a high cobalt toughness high speed steel, mainly used for high toughness precision wear-resistant hardware cold stamping dies, and also used for cooling in cutting tools and knives. The steel has high hardness, up to 70HRC, good thermal hardness, high temperature hardness and easy grinding. Cutting tools made of this steel can cut iron-based superalloys, cast superalloys, titanium alloys and ultra-high strength steels, etc., but the toughness is slightly poor, and the lower limit of quenching temperature should be adopted. Because of its good grindability, it can be used to manufacture various high-precision complex tools.

M42 Steel Feature

W2Mo9Cr4VCo8/M42 is excellent property and extra hard steel contains 9% cobalt.It has significant secondary hardening effect, red hardness and wear resistance.

M42 High Speed Steel Applications:

M42 can be used for a variety of purposes: twist drills, taps, milling cutters, reamers, saw blades, broaches, roll-to-inserts, gear cutters and other gear cutters. In addition to cutting tools with red hardness requirements, they can also be used as cold work tool steels, such as die cutting, forming and embossing.
